Project Story

  • Many women from low-income households lack access to training in safe food preparation and preservation. Without these skills, families may struggle with food safety, limited food storage options, and fewer opportunities to turn home cooking into a reliable source of income.

  • The Safe Food Basket Initiative empowers women by teaching safe, home-based food preparation and production.

Led by students from the Nutrition and Food Technology Department at Hebron University, the program combines awareness sessions on healthy nutrition and food safety with practical workshops. During these workshops, participants learn how to prepare simple food products such as dairy items, pickles, jams, and dried foods using safe and effective methods.

  • By building practical food skills, the initiative helps women strengthen food safety practices in their homes while improving household food security.

At the same time, these skills can open the door to small, home-based food production that may help support family income in the future.
